Departmental Use Permits

Personal Vehicles Only

  • Each department can request (two) Departmental Use permits beginning August 1, 2025.
  • If a Departmental Use permit is lost/stolen, contact our office immediately to have the permit deactivated.
  • Departmental Use permits are exclusively for faculty/staff to use for their personal vehicles to park outside of their permitted zone for official departmental activities. A Departmental Use permit is only valid on a permitted vehicle. Any vehicle displaying a Departmental Use permit that is not linked to an active MSU permit will be cited.
  • A student permitted vehicle operating in accordance with OP 91.125 may use a Departmental Use permit.
  • MSU owned vehicles are not required to use a Departmental Use permit, but are still required to have an Official Use permit.
  • Departmental Use permits are valid in non-gated parking lots. They are not valid in gated, service, metered, timed, or garage parking areas.
  • Any citation a vehicle receives while displaying a Departmental Use permit will be the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle and not the Department the permit is registered to.
